The Union of Professional Educators – Voice Of The Workers has been analysing the election results issued by the MUT in great detail.
Even at first glance, it stands out that the MUT is no longer a grassroots union for educators but has, over the years, been gradually taken over by school management.
This is evidenced by the fact that an overwhelming 57% of the newly-elected council members are SMT, something which explains why these grades had benefited the most during the last sectorial agreement.
It thus becomes very clear that grassroots educators are bound to be significantly under-represented and that any future endeavours put forward by these council members will be nullified by an overall SMT majority.
The UPE, on the other hand, reiterates its commitment at representing grassroots grades at all times.
