Budget 2020 – UPE’s Reaction

Bħala Unjin nieħdu gost li għal darb’oħra pajjiżna reġa’ irreġistra surplus u li l-ekonomija tagħna kompliet timxi ‘l quddiem. Nilqgħu l-fatt li dan il-budget ma żiedx taxxi diretti fuq l-edukaturi. Mill-banda l-oħra nemmnu li waħda mill-akbar sfidi li għandu pajjiżna hi n-nuqqas t’edukaturi fis-sistema edukattiva ta’ pajjiżna. Nemmnu li f’dan il-waqt kien ikun aktar għaqli li kieku l-gvern għamel aktar sabiex jindirizza din il-problema.

As a Union we are pleased to see that yet again our country has recorded a surplus and that our economy has continued moving ahead. We more than welcomed the fact that this budget did not bring with it any direct taxation on educators. On the other hand, we feel that one of the greatest challenges currently facing our country is that of a shortage of educators practicing within the educational system. We feel, that given the circumstances, it would have been wiser had the government done more to address this issue.
