The Union of Professional Educators – Voice of The Workers, has been informed by its members working in Church Schools that a consent form is being circulated among parents/guardians regarding online lessons.
Educators are not obliged to assist in the gathering of data, especially not during the holiday period. In the meantime, various schools are issuing timetables for the coming term that oblige Educators to be online for prolonged periods of time. The Secretariat of Catholic Education must understand that Educators have to take care of their loved ones at home during these extraordinary times and such conditions are impossible to work in.
The Union is suggesting that Educators keep forwarding/correcting work-related documents of their students via the approved platforms during working hours. Throughout this time they are not obliged to do any video conferencing. We recommend that our members follow the guidelines issued by the UPE in the past weeks.
Educators who are members of the Union are to report to the UPE if the school is coercing them to have lessons via video conferencing with their students via email at email@example.com or by calling our offices on 2590 5400.
