Directives for KGEs who are Members of the UPE

The Union of Professional Educators – Voice of The Workers, has for the past days been raising an objection to MEDE’s decision of not giving KGEs their Curriculum Time as stipulated in clause 12.3 of the Sectorial Agreement which states;

“For non-compulsory schooling years, all Kindergarten Educators and Teachers serving at Kindergarten level, shall be entitled to 60 minutes per week of non-contact/curriculum time as from scholastic year 2018/2019 to reach a maximum of 90 minutes per week of non-contact/curriculum time from scholastic year 2019/2020.”

The Union gave the Ministry an ultimatum till Thursday the 5th of December 2019 to rectify the situation. Unfortunately, not only did the Ministry not offer a solution to this problem, but it also ignored our members’ plea to that which is rightfully theirs.

For this reason, the following directives will be issued and will be effective starting from Monday 9th December 2019.

KGEs who are members of the UPE are not to carry out any cleaning duties related to equipment being used, more specifically, table-top toys.

KGEs who are members of the UPE are to stop doing any weekly planning activities.

KGEs who are members of the UPE are to stop working on the WEB.

KGEs who are members of the UPE are to stop working on Project Plans.

KGEs who are members of the UPE are not to participate in action plans.

KGEs who are members of the UPE are not to check or sort money or fill in forms on behalf of the school.

KGEs who are members of the UPE are not to participate in any school outings.

In the meantime, the Union will continue monitoring the situation so as to resolve the matter as promptly as possible.
