The Union of Professional Educators – Voice of the Workers was glad to receive the welcome news that State School educators have been asked to fill in an online form asking them whether they would be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. This form should be completed by the 19th of February and was received by state school educators on their ilearn email accounts.
In the meantime, much concern has risen amongst educators in the Church and Independent school sectors, who have thus far not received the same invitation to complete a form which will allow them to receive the vaccine. Educators in the ELT sector have also expressed their concern on the same issue, as many have contacted the union because they have not received an invitation to complete a similar form. The UPE will be monitoring these lacunae closely so as to understand why these three sectors have not received the invitation with the same promptness as State schools.
The UPE recommends that the Public Health Authorities offer a variety of vaccination options from the ones readily available, especially in view of possible medical incompatibilities which may inhibit educators, willing to receive the vaccine, from benefitting from specific brands. The Union trusts in the professional judgement of our Health Authorities in the roll-out and administration of the vaccine on these issues.
