English Language Schools to reopen post-covid

The Union of Professional Educators – Voice of The Workers, is closely following the developments on the announcement by the Minister of Tourism in which she stated that English language schools are to open their doors from the 1st of July 2020.

The union is pleased to see that a semblance of normality seems to be returning within the industry but is concerned that the number of students coming over to Malta to pursue their studies in the English language will not be enough to sustain the industry.

After the budget announced yesterday, the union is revived to see that the grant of the COVID Wage supplement has been extended until the end of September 2020, thus giving the industry some breathing space.

In the meantime, the Union has requested a formal meeting with the Ministry of Education and Employment, FELTOM and the ELT Council to discuss further the concerns the Union has.
