NEW Directives on LSEs, Teachers & KGEs

The Education Department can currently be compared to a rudderless ship steering out of control in an abyss of absurdity.    LSEs who had been assigned to a class or to a particular student at the beginning of the year are being asked to leave the classroom they were originally assigned to, so as to support a different class, half way through the academic year.

This is creating endless confusion as well as a sense of helplessness. Teachers and KGEs have been struggling in class since this support has been removed.   Kindergarten classes, in particular, are beginning to reap the fruit of the incompetence of the ‘historical’ MUT agreement, with LSEs being removed from class mid-year to accommodate for the new intake in February  all of this resulting from a lack of manpower on the side of the Ministry.    The UPE can’t allow such a scenario to happen without anyone taking action and for this reason the Union is issuing the following directives to all of its members.

LSEs Who are members of UPE are to remain in the class the school had assigned them to at the beginning of the year, and they are not to leave that class to see to the needs of another classroom.

Teachers and KGE’s who are members of UPE are not to write any reports or give any written feedback if the LSEs assigned to them at the beginning of the year have been transferred to a different class.

The Union will keep on monitoring the situation and will continue issuing further directives if the problem is not resolved within the coming days.
